A great cheap vacation location

by Mark Radcliffe

Have you got some vacation time coming up? Are you trying to decide where you want to go for vacation? While gas prices are out of this world high, that doesn’t mean your vacation plans have to go on hold. If you take the time and do some research, you can save yourself plenty of money. Below are five tips to help you have a good time at your choice of cheap beach vacations.

Have you decided where you want to vacation? After you choose your final beach vacation site, you should do research on the area. First thing you’ll need to know is what has the town got that you want? Second, are the beaches clean? Third, are the beaches routinely patrolled by the police? This is especially important if you live away from the beach you are wanting to visit. If you are taking your family including children, you don’t want to go to a beach that allows nudity or is crime ridden. Do some research!

Many times when people go on vacation, they think about the hotel they are going to stay in. If you want to save a bit of money, try camping out underneath the stars (if weather permits of course). Tents don’t cost a lot of money. You can buy a good used one off tent on the Internet or eBay for $10 or so dollars. It really depends on what you are looking for. Course, if you buy yourself a tent you can also sleep out of the tent, watching the waves crash in or the stars twinkle in the sky. There is a drawback to wanting to do this however. When you are doing your research on the beach, make sure that camping out on the beach is legal to do. You don’t want to be disrupted during your trip with a ticket for loitering or anything like that.

Third, bring your food with you instead of eating out. There is also a possibility that you can’t have a bonfire so be sure to find out whether this is possible before you do the food packing. If a bonfire isn’t allowed, be sure you pack plenty of dry food to eat and snack on.

You’ll want to have some sort of entertainment while you are at the beach. Playing in the water is fun but don’t forget the games during the evening hours. You should also take a walk along the beach and just explore the area.

You’ll need to protect yourself from the sun so bring your sunscreen with you. Many people do not realize that a cloudy day does not save them from being sunburned.

If you have decided to visit Florida, you’ve made a good choice. Now it’s time to narrow down which city and beach you want to visit. A good place to visit is Clearwater. This town is nestled on the Gulf of Mexico. There are many places to go and many places to see in the town but if you are on a budget, you can choose to do the things you really want to see and save the others for another time.

Remember, just because you are going on vacation doesn’t mean you have to spend your life’s savings. It just means you need to be frugal and you can do this by having a cheap beach vacation. You utilize the five tips above and you’ll have more money in your pocket after the vacation is over.

Little Known Tips For Easy & Fun Halloween Costumes

by Phil Sikes

Modern Halloween costumes do not have to be easy or unique. Zombies, ghosts, and witches are not the only simple costumes available. Movie character and super hero costumes can be just as much fun to wear. But, you can avoid the expenses involved in buying or renting a costume by making one yourself at home.

All you need to make a great Halloween costume yourself is some old clothing, a bit of make-up, some interesting accessories and accent pieces, and an exaggerated and original fashion concept. Consider the following possibilities.

Start with just an old white coat. If you can get hold of an old stethoscope, or make something like it up with some tubing, you are well on your way to looking like a doctor. Add a red cross to the coat with some fabric paint, and make up the face with a mustache and some face paint to look like an older man. Somebody in the family might have an old x-ray photograph revealing bones that could be carried. Add a clip board and a treat bag or pail.

You could start with another old white coat, and turn your character into a mad scientist or a geeky nerd using the same approach, with relevant accessories like a stack of pens in the pocket and some make up. The mad scientist could wear a wig to resemble Einstein and the geek could wear a propellor hat. Let your imagination run riot.

A simple yet elegant dress and some fancy dress shoes can be the base for a great princess costume. Make the outfit unique by lots of jewelry, especially things that sparkle and shine. A princess needs a crown, necklace, ring, wand, and brooch. Don’t forget the royal make-up.

You can turn regular jewelry into something perfectly exaggerated by pasting on fake gems and attaching some shiny silver foil. For a treat bag, use a shopping bag from a high end retail store.

Old clothes can provide you with a truly believable hobo costume, too. You can rip some holes in and sew patches onto your costume clothing. A bottle in a paper bag, a well worn felt hat, and some face paint can make your get up quite convincing.

The hobo face paint should top things off, leaving you looking dirty and tired.

Travel Insurance ix

by Roc Selly

Don’t overlook travel insurance. It is an important part of your vacation. Travel Insurance is a quick and simple way of being covered for unforeseen costs whether you’re travelling internationally or domestically.

Designed to protect you from things that can spoil your trip, travel insurance can assist in overcoming complications such as sickness, losing your baggage and belongings, a cancelled or delayed flight, getting sued overseas, or, in extreme situations, death. Travel insurance is provided for both individual persons and groups of persons and is one of the most variable kinds of insurance available in terms of price and cover.

It may seem daunting, the thought of buying travel insurance, as one often hears or reads of cases where travellers have been ‘cheated’ out of money that they believe is rightfully owed to them for a claim they have made but travellers needn’t be misinformed about their travel insurance. When purchasing travel insurance, it is important voice any doubts or misunderstandings to avoid disappointment in case a claim needs to be made. Every policy should be supplemented with policy wording to outline and detail exactly what the travel insurance purchased will and will not cover.

The policy wording of your travel insurance will back up any claim you make, so long as your case is valid and deserving of cover. Some travellers lose their travel insurance claims due to small overlooked factors. For example, travel insurance can not be claimed on if a police report is not obtained by the traveller at the scene of the crime to back up a case of theft. Without a police report, there is no proof of theft.

Lyme Disease - Can A Tick Bite Ruin Your Vacation?

by Dorothy Yamich

Travelers, campers, and vacationers can be at risk for contracting Lyme disease, a serious, debilitating condition caused by being bitten by an infected tick.

What are the usual symptoms of Lyme disease?

Some of the symptoms of Lyme disease are the classic bull’s-eye red rash, fatigue or loss of energy, feeling sleepy, tingling and numbness, swollen and painful joints, memory loss, and feeling like you are getting the flu. Paralysis of the face is a less common symptom.

Getting Lyme disease can make your life miserable and cause you a lot of pain and suffering if it is not diagnosed and treated immediately. The longer you wait before seeing a health care professional allows this disease to progress quickly and it may not be possible to lessen it’s effects.

How is Lyme disease spread?

Ticks bite and then feed on animals like mice, other small rodents, and deer. If these animals are harboring the Lyme bacteria, they can pass this bacteria on to the ticks. And if people are bitten by an infected tick they may contract Lyme disease.

What steps can you take to reduce the chance of getting Lyme disease?

As some people do not have symptoms right away, prevention is the best policy. When you travel in the spring through summer months to or through areas where deer, mice, other rodents and animals live, the following are some things you should do.

If you plan to camp when you are on vacation or holidays, you can reduce the number of ticks around your campsite by removing a lot of the brush and leaves debris. If you wear light colored clothing you can more easily see these extremely tiny black insects and remove them before they attach to and burrow your skin. Always wear long-sleeved shirts and tuck them into your pants, and also tuck your pant cuffs in your socks. It is great idea to wear rubber boots because ticks are usually found close to the ground. You can also get them in your hair if you brush against leaves on a low hanging tree branch. Wearing a light-colored, wide-brimmed hat may also help. Be sure to check your scalp and skin carefully as ticks can easily be overlooked, particularly in your hair. Apply a DEET containing insect repellent to your clothes and exposed skin, as well as permethrin, an insecticide and insect repellent, to your clothes. That will also help.

How can ticks be safely removed?

Ticks that have burrowed and embedded themselves underneath your skin can be removed by using a small-tipped tweezers. Do not leave any part of the tick remaining under your skin. When the tick has been totally removed, disinfect the wound thoroughly with hydrogen peroxide or alcohol. Keep in mind that you are not totally out of the woods yet, so to speak, as the symptoms can take a number of days or weeks before they show. Using tweezers is the only safe way to remove ticks from under your skin or scalp. Don’t try to remove any ticks by using burnt matches, petroleum jelly, or alcohol as this will aggravate them, causing them to release more of the bacteria into your blood stream.

Please note that there is no vaccine available for Lyme disease.

According to the Center For Disease Control And Prevention (CDC) this bacterial disease is vastly under reported, perhaps by well over 100,000 cases per year in the U.S. alone. You can go to their website at cdc.gov for more information on Lyme disease.

Is Seasickness A Problem On Modern Cruise Ships?

by Dorothy Yamich

Modern cruise ships have drastically reduced the problem of seasickness. The larger ships of today cut through the waves instead of riding on top of them. As well, new technologies like stabilizers and counterbalancing systems have greatly reduced the pitch and roll of these ships, all but neutralizing the problem of seasickness.

However, if you think you have a severe seasickness problem, you may want to book an inside cabin located on a lower deck and in the middle of the ship. This is the area of the ship where the least rocking motion is felt. If you are planning to book a trans-Atlantic cruise, it is possible that an ocean crossing may be rough at certain times.

If you need it, the ship’s physician can prescribe medication such as, Bonine, Benadryl, or Dramamine tablets that will treat dizziness, nausea, and vomiting, the worst symptoms of motion sickness. There is another very effective, doctor prescribed, anti-seasickness product called Transderm Scop. They are small patches that are placed behind the ears. The patches can lessen, or even prevent the effects of motion sickness.

Sea-Bands, which apply gentle pressure to the acupressure points on your wrists also work well. They have been clinically tested to help provide relief from nausea and vomiting caused by motion sickness when traveling, anesthesia, chemotherapy, pregnancy, and any condition that may induce vomiting. They are available in pharmacies and drug stores as well as most travel oriented stores and don’t require a prescription. They do not cause any side effects so can be used safely, again and again, whenever you feel nauseous. They also can be purchased online at Sea-Band.com.

A physician, pharmacist, or other health care professional should always be consulted about drug dosages and any possible side effects. There also can be side effects caused by combining or mixing different drugs, even over-the-counter medications.

MOR Vacations - New Kid on the Block

by Troy Broussard

M.O.R. Vacations stands for Member Only Resort Vacations and is the most full featured Travel Club to ever hit the Travel Industry. It is taking the marketplace by storm as it was publically introduced on Friday, August 15th, 2008. But don’t worry, this is no “Johnny come lately” company, as the Travel Club Membership company behind it has been doing business for 23 years and has more than 100,000 members.

These 100,000 members paid three times what the membership is now selling for and those who join now with MOR Vacations receive many other benefits that existing members do not have, such as a “No-Fee for Life” membership and a company backed finance plan to get you up and traveling now!

Travel Clubs have become popular since the 80’s as a much more viable and flexible alternative to the traditional Timeshare model. They typically offer more access to more resorts without all of the hassles of timeshare ownership and at a far discounted price.

Don’t confuse a Travel Club with a Timeshare - the two concepts could not be further apart. The Timeshare model is based on ownership, the Travel Club model is based on membership. The problem with the ownership model is that it is very costly, has many limitations on travel and has a very narrow network of resorts.

So rather than an expensive Timeshare purchase, you can make a single purchase for a lifetime membership in a Travel Club for just a fraction of the cost. You even get special features with a Travel Club that you’ll never get with a Timeshare, such as unlimited guest weeks.

This Travel Club was designed for YOU! It was designed to save you money and provide you flexibility at the same time. Want to do everything yourself online? Great. Just login to your Online Membership account and plan everything out. Would you rather just make a call to an 800 number and let them figure out the details? Well, we’ve got you covered there too. The choice is yours.

Travel Insurance Bii

by Roc Selly

Travel insurance is a way to offer yourself peace of mind and minimise the considerable financial risks of travelling. When travelling abroad, there is no legal requirement for you to have insurance but if you find yourself in a situation like any that we’ve listed below you’ll bless the day you took a policy out because travelling with no insurance puts you at serious risk which you might not be able to handle. Travel insurance is designed to cover you when things go wrong and problems arise during your travels. Travel insurance is insurance that is intended to cover your medical expenses, financial losses (such as money invested in non-refundable pre-payments), and other losses incurred while travelling, either within your own country, or in other countries.

You may not know this about travel insurance: there are regular travel insurance companies out there that will insure you for adrenaline sports such as skiing and bungee jumping at very competitive rates; an insurance air travel policy covers you in your plane is involved in an accident, no matter what financial state the airline is in.

When preparing for the unexpected on a trip abroad, travel insurance is your ultimate tool but bear in mind that most sections of your policy have limits on the amount that the insurer will pay under that section so be sure to familiarise yourself with the policy wording before committing yourself to a travel insurance package.

Here are a couple of things you may not know about travel insurance: an insurance air travel policy covers you in your plane is involved in an accident, no matter what financial state the airline is in; there are regular travel insurance companies out there that will insure you for adrenaline sports such as skiing and bungee jumping at very competitive rates.

Travel insurance is priced as a percentage of trip costs, and typically ranges from 4 to 8%. Travel Insurance is just as essential as your sunglasses, toiletries and camera when you’re heading off on holiday. Travel insurance is not so much an optional extra as an integral part of any break. The good news is, though, that travel insurance is getting cheaper. Perhaps travel insurance is indeed a wise decision.

Halloween Harry Potter Party

by Phil Sikes

The magical world of Harry Potter can be used as a theme for a fun and creative Halloween party.

The popularity of both the Harry Potter books and movies is undeniable. Many children start reading full length books with Harry Potter. Just because J.K. Rowling has finished writing the entire series does not mean that the story is any less interesting.

Harry Potter also appeals to a broad range of ages. This is mostly because many older teenagers started reading with the first book and then eagerly anticipated each addition to the series.

The Harry Potter story offers a rich source of inspiration for Halloween decorations and costumes. A wide selection of typical decorative Halloween items featuring witches, hats, wands, wizards, ghosts, goblins, magic potions, broomsticks, spiders, spider webs, skeletons and a great deal more are all relevant to a Harry Potter Halloween party theme. You can add some specific Harry Potter decoration items, featuring characters from the books, the school at Hogwarts, crests, posters, frogs, owls, and much more.

There is a growing interest in the Harry Potter theme as a feature at Halloween, and a corresponding increase in the Harry Potter decorative items available at Halloween time.

Harry Potter Halloween parties can be announced with Harry Potter themed invitations. These can include fonts and images found online that are related to the world of Harry Potter. Make sure that you invitations inform guests of the date, time, and location of the party. In order to make the catering process easier, ask invited guests to RSVP. Don’t forget that the parents of your guests need to be informed of safety measurements being taken and transportation arrangements that have been made.

Keep the Harry Potter theme running through the party activities by watching the Harry Potter movies, reading the books, discussing details of the story and films, doing Harry Potter related crafts, playing Harry Potter video games, and looking at fan sites online.

Crafts don’t have to be complicated. You can get everyone to make a Harry Potter style wand for themselves with nothing more than a wooden dowel and some paints.

Make Your Next Holiday the Western Cape of South Africa

by Glenda Capman

Because of its diverse landscape and incredible amount of attractions to visit, the Western Cape of South Africa continues to rank as one of the top places in the world to vacation. Visitors to the Cape can experience everything from incredible mountains and national parks, to the thousands of miles of beaches which are situated on two different oceans. They can visit historic vineyard estates, watch whales, and even shop for diamonds. In fact, there is so much to do on the Western Cape of South Africa, it’s almost impossible to see everything on one visit.

The most striking part of the landscape on the Western Cape of South Africa is the world famous Table Mountain. It towers 3,300 feet above the city bowl of Cape Town and is accessible by road, hiking trails, or cable car. Once at the top, visitors can look down through the clouds surrounding the mountain to see the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean, as well as the city of Cape Town and all of its historic architecture.

The coastline on the Western Cape of South Africa is something incredible to experience as well. There is cliff climbing, surfing and fishing to enjoy on the Atlantic coast. Here, you will also find the pristine beaches and shopping in the area known as the Western Cape ‘Riviera’. The Indian Ocean on the other side of the cape is warmer and nicer for swimming.

One of the favorite pastimes in the Western Cape of South Africa is whale watching. Every winter, these gentle giants come to the shores of the Cape to mate and calve. Because there are many safe harbors where the whales can swim close to the shore, there are many opportunities to see them up close.

The Western Cape of South Africa boasts many attractions to visit inland as well. One of the most popular areas to enjoy away from the ocean is the vineyard estates located along the famous Constantia Wine Route. The simple beauty of the Cape Dutch manor homes set amongst the ripening vineyards in the valleys creates the perfect atmosphere in which to sample the local wines and cuisine of the area.

It will take a whole day to see the entire Garden Route, another attraction that is part of the Western Cape of South Africa, which runs parallel to the Atlantic Ocean. This is a collection of botanical gardens, national parks, historic landmarks, caves, and coastline that have to be seen to be believed.

Shopping is also a heavily pursued activity on the Western Cape of South Africa. Cape Town has many stores, boutiques and shopping malls that line its cobblestone streets, but none quite so frequented as the ‘The Diamond Works.’ This diamond emporium offers some of the most exquisite diamond jewelry in the world and is definitely a one-of-a-kind shopping adventure. Afterwards, a trip to the Victor and Albert Waterfront is a great place to stop off for refreshments, dinner, and entertainment.

Truly, the Western Cape of South Africa is an exciting and unique world class destination. Anyone who is serious about world travel simply must add the Western Cape of South Africa to their list of places to visit during their lifetime.
