Vacation in Hawaii
It will be nearly as much fun as taking the actual vacation in Hawaii to review all the things there are to do on the islands. There are more than just the Big Island of Hawaii; there are also Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lahai and Maui. Each offers their own special attractions for your pleasure.
Your vacation in Hawaii can be even more spectacular if you visit Waimea Canyon on the west side of the island. This 3,000 ft. deep canyon offers beautiful views of crested buttes, rugged craigs, and deep valley gorges. The opportunity for sensational photos is endless at the canyon.
If you visit the North Shore of Kauai you can walk amongst the beautiful green cliffs and see the cascading waterfalls plummeting into deep narrow valleys far below. Standing on the cliffs, looking over the big Pacific Ocean will give you a sense of just how beautiful the island is and how small in comparison to the ocean.
Visit Oahu, the once home of King Kamehaeha. Here you can go to Waikiki Beach and enjoy the surf. There are opportunities for lessons or just the big waves for the experienced surfer to be challenged by at the beach.
While you are at Waikiki Beach you may want to go to the Waikiki Aquarium and see the 3rd oldest aquarium in the U.S. Here there are over 500 marine species and more than 3,000 marine specimens for you to enjoy. They even have two endangered Hawaii Monk Seals for you to learn about while at the aquarium.
Honululu offers the visitors a wide range of things to do and see from the historic buildings to the beautiful capitol building. You will see stunning monuments and stunning artwork by local and international artists.
Take a tour of Iolani Palace where King Kalakaua and his successor, Queen Liliuokalani held lavish parties and conducted diplomatic affairs for the kingdom. See the private living quarters of the royal family and learn the history of how the Queen was imprisoned in an upstairs bedroom following the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy.
Visit the Windward Coast and see the Koolau Mountains and the breathtaking views offered from here. Stop in at Sea Life Park and visit the dolphins and penguins that are housed here.
You have probably read about it in the history books, or you remember it from when it actually happened but here in Central Oahu you can visit the USS Arizona and see the memorials that are a tribute to the brave men and women that were killed in the bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese at the start of the US involvement in WWII. If you want to relax after that experience you may want to sample the fresh pineapple that is grown in the lush valley in the area.
When you visit Molokai be sure to spend a little time at the main harbor, Kaunakakai, where the tallest point on the island is located. This is the steeple of a chruch since no buildings are taller than a coconut tree!
Are you planning a stop in Lanai while you are on your Hawaii vacation? This quite, restful island will give you a chance to watch the whales, dolphins or just swim or snorkel to relax.
A 60 ft. banyan tree is something you will want to see when you are visiting Maui. The tree and the mountain top of Haleakala offer an alternative to the beaches (which are great) of the other islands.
Come to the Big Island and see how it is still growing! The volcano keeps adding land mass to the island. With 11 different climate zones you can experience everything from the desert to the Rain Forest, from the black sand beaches to the snow capped mountains.
